Piroska Szabó, Ph.D.

Associate Professor
Center for Epigenetics
Van Andel Research Institute

Dr.Piroska Szabó carried out her undergraduate and graduate research studying cartilage-specific gene regulation in the laboratory of Professor Ibolya Kiss at the Biological Research Center of The Hungarian Academy of Sciences. She received her Ph.D. in molecular biology from József Attila University, Szeged, Hungary in 1992. She obtained her postdoctoral training in the field of epigenetics, mouse genetics and developmental biology at the Beckman Research Institute of City of Hope, Duarte, California in the laboratory of Dr. Jeffrey Mann, where she focused on the mechanisms of genomic imprinting in the soma. At the Beckman Research Institute Dr. Szabó became an assistant professor in 2006 and was promoted to associate professor in 2011. She joined VARI in 2014. Currently, the Szabó Laboratory studies the molecular mechanisms responsible for reprogramming the epigenome between generations.
