Lucia Daxinger is a junior group leader at the Human Genetics Department at Leiden University Medical Center, The Netherlands. She received her Ph.D. from the University of Vienna, Austria, and trained at the Gregor Mendel Institute of Molecular Plant Biology, Vienna, with Dr. Marjori Matzke. In 2009, she was awarded a Postdoctoral Fellowship from the Austrian Science Fund and moved to Australia to join Prof. Emma Whitelaw’s laboratory at the QIMR Berghofer Medical Research Institute, Brisbane, Australia. She continued to work on epigenetics but switched from plants to mammals, and was involved in a large chemical mutagenesis screen to identify factors required for epigenetic silencing in mammals. In 2013, she received the LUMC Fellowship that allowed her to establish her own group at Leiden University Medical Center. Her research aims to understand how aberrant epigenetic state can result in disease phenotype.
