Institute of Experiment Genetics
Johannes Beckers is head of the gene regulation and epigenetics group, and deputy director of the Institute of Experimental Genetics at the Helmholtz Zentrum München. He teaches genetics at the Technische Universität München. In addition, he is elected board member of the German Genetics Society (Gesellschaft für Genetik eV) and the German Society of Biology (VBIO eV). His main research interest is the understanding of intergenerational epigenetic inheritance of metabolic disorders such as obesity and diabetes using the mouse as model organism. After studying biology at the Ruprecht-Karls-Universität and the EMBL (Heidelberg, Germany), he did his doctoral work on HoxD gene regulation at the Univerity of Geneva (Switzerland) followed by postdoctoral studies on Delta/Notch signaling during somitogenesis at The Jackson Laboratory (Bar Harbor, Maine, U.S.A.) supported by a fellowship of the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft.
